Now for the good stuff -
Happy Women’s Day!
I’ve become a jinx-believer. I couldn’t leak the news until I knew it was absolutely happening, so thank you for your patience.
Opening today is Women in Action at Davu Gallery!
Dhaka Weaver, oil on unstretched canvas, 30 x 40 cm, 2023, sold
I was invited to participate in this group exhibition of female identifying Nepali artists last week and hustled to prepare a painting. The exhibition celebrates International Women’s Day by bringing together emerging and established artists from Kathmandu and beyond.
My work, Dhaka Weaver, will be alongside pieces and bodies of work from 22 other artists. Dhaka Weaver was inspired by stories of women who have used weaving to gain financial independence in Nepal. The painting shows a woman’s arms and hands laid overtop a weaving in progress. I wanted to focus on the limbs that perform action, focusing on the different abilities of arms to weave and hold oneself.
